The price at which a trader can purchase a particular financial instrument, such as currency pairs.

The ask or offer price is effectively the price a client will be quoted when he or she is attempting to buy or long a position.

It is always higher then the bid price, which is the price a short order will get.

The difference between ask and bid price is called the spread.

For example, if the USD/JPY is at BID: 120.92 and ASK: 120.95, a trader can buy the position at 120.95 (Ask Price), or sell the position at 120.92 (Bid Price).
Note: When placing stops and limits for a short order, the trader needs to be looking at the Ask Price chart and not the Bid Price chart.
