A technical analysis term referring to a cross by a short-term moving average from above to below a long-term moving average.

When the short-term Moving Average ie. 20-period MA moves down and crosses under a long-term one ie. 50-period MA, it is known as a death cross. Some chartists interpret this as a potential start of a decline (a bearish signal), hence the name “Death Cross”.

Vice versa, a crossover by the short MA from below to above the long MA is known as the “Golden Cross
